Q: What is Winter BLAST!?
A: Winter BLAST! is an event hosted by Gordon District Scouts. It is a flagship winter camp for Explorer Scouts and Young Leaders (aged 13 years and 6 months to 17 years and 11 months). It’s an action-packed weekend of outdoor adventures, team challenges, legendary campfires, and new friendships at Daviot Scout Campsite.
Q: When is this years event happening?
A: The event runs from Friday, December 4th to Sunday, December 6th, 2026.
Q: Where is it being held?
A: We’re based at Daviot Scout Campsite, just outside Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.
Q: Is the event catered?
A: Yes! All meals are fully catered by our expert central catering team to keep you fueled all weekend. There will be a hot meal option at every meal time!
Q: Will there be indoor accommodation or warm spaces?
A: It is a tented outdoor winter camp, so come prepared for the elements! However, we’ve got you covered when you need to warm up: we’re hiring a Marquee for 2026, alongside our main hall and Explorer tent, complete with heating and fire pits.
Q: How do participants register?
A: Participants can sign up directly through our online registration portal register.winterblast.org.uk/participant. The secure digital form will collect all necessary consents, contact information, and medical/dietary details.
Q: When do registrations open and close?
A: Registrations open in late September 2026 and close on 08th November, 2026.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The 2026 event cost is £60 per person, 10% of all spaces are reserved for widening access places for those who qualify at a reduced price of £40 per person. This includes all food, site facilities, and activities. Staff members do not pay a fee, it is covered by the event overheads.
Q: Can young people from outside Gordon District attend?
A: Yes! Any young person aged 13 years and 6 months to 17 years and 11 months from Scottish Scouting can attend the 2026 event.
Q: Can I volunteer as staff?
A: Yes! We’re always looking for enthusiastic Leaders and Network members to help deliver an amazing weekend and build the legacy for future Winter BLAST! camps. (Note: All adults onsite must be PVG compliant and up-to-date with their Scouting training / 'be a compliant member').
Q: How do I volunteer as staff?
A: Staff can register via our secure online web-app, register.winterblast.org.uk/staff
Q: What roles are available?
A: Roles include First Aid, Catering, Activity Leaders, Logistics, Site Support, and more. You can express your preferences during the staff sign-up process.
Q: Is there a cost for staff?
A: No — staff attend completely free of charge and will be fully catered all weekend.
Q: Do staff sleep indoors?
A: Most staff will be camping. Limited indoor options or space for campervans/caravans may be available for those in key roles or with specific access requirements.
Q: What should I pack?
A: A full kit list will be provided closer to the event, but expect warm layers, waterproofs, sleeping gear, and a sense of adventure!
Q: Can I attend without my unit?
A: Yes! In 2026, participants can now individually register, they no longer need their Unit Leader to come along to the event!
Q: What happens if I have dietary needs or medical conditions?
A: These can be shared during registration. Our Catering and First Aid teams are experienced and will do their best to support everyone.
Q: What kind of food is provided?
A: We serve hearty, filling meals designed to keep you warm and energised — including options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Q: Will you cater for dietary requirements?
A: Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-aware options are available. Just let us know during the registration process.
Q: Can I help in the kitchen?
A: Absolutely! If you're a Leader or Networker interest in catering, we'd love your help. Sign up via the staff application form.
Q: Do I need food hygiene training to help with catering?
A: It’s a bonus, but not required. We’ll make sure you’re briefed and supported.
